Pet Dentistry

Veterinary dentistry is about more than just teeth cleaning for dogs and cats, treating bad breath or preventing teeth from falling out. Cat and dog dental health is essential to overall health, as pet dental infections are known to affect all systems of the body. They can allow bacteria to infect the heart, kidney, liver, any organ of the body, as well as abscesses of bone and even jaw fracture. Common pet dental infections can eventually lead to loss of teeth, which is extremely painful well before a tooth is lost. Pets instinctively hide this pain, because to show pain would result in them being preyed upon by predators in the wild. Often, they continue to eat because not eating is a poor survival strategy and so they deal with and hide excruciating pain that would cause us to whimper on the floor.
